If you've read the last two posts, you now know that Kicktastic exists to 1) make solid business training affordable for everyone; and 2) give you the complete elephant and help you make money freelancing or transform your small mature business into a supercharged rocketpack made out of money.
Short answer: The purpose of all the trainging is to help you grow by leaps and bounds and take more cash home.
The first step is mental. You have to lay claim to this adventure of being responsible for your livelihood. Maybe you got laid off and were pushed into the world of self-employment forcibly. Maybe you're fresh out of college and can't find a job in your chosen field. Maybe you already have a decent paycheck and nice enough boss, but the work is sucking out your soul.
Regardless of where you're coming from, you can't ride the employment fence. If part of you is still waiting for another salaried position to fall in your lap, then you won't truly commit to learning for yourself how to generate a sustainable income.
Commit. Right now.
Start looking for more freedom, not a new boss.
An artist-adrift-in-the-business-world mindset has a bunch of unpleasantness attached to it, rather like a ship with barnacles.
When some frustrating email shows up in your inbox or a fire-that-needs-putting-out calls interrupts your placid Sunday afternoon, you'll find yourself thinking, "I'm not cut out for this. I'm supposed to be [insert Caribbean yachting adventure here]."
When your account balance is low or you're wrestling with Excel spreadsheets or a client makes a passive-aggressive jab, you'll be tempted to throw in the towel and go look for a desk job where you can simply punch in and punch out. Boredom may seem more appealing than anxiety, but it pays a lot less.
What you gain in "stability," you sacrifice in freedom.
The whole point of Kicktastic is to keep your account balance high, to pay someone else to deal with Excel, and to learn how to spot bad-egg clients before you ever agree to work with them.
I thought I was going to be a college professor, and I never wanted to be a businessman. I've got an M.A. in English! Yet, my business hasn't failed, and I haven't been tarred, feathered, and run out of town by an angry mob. I grew my marketing strategy, brand consulting, and copywriting business 24%, 33%, and 47%, year over year.
If an English nerd can do it, then so can you. Commit.
The truth is, my business could have grown even faster if something like Kicktastic had smacked me upside the head. If I had developed a branding-marketing-business-strategy recipe and thoughtfully implemented it, step-by-step, then I'd probably be doing something insanely cool right now like photographing silverback gorillas.
But Kicktastic is a lot of fun too.
